Abstract: Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) causes bacterial blight of rice is a global threat newlineto rice production. The bacterium Xoo could succeed in suppressing the rice innate newlineimmune responses by secreting T3SS effectors directly into plant cells through type newlinethree secretion system (T3SS) and modulate plant defense mechanism. T3SS effectors newlineof Xop family were known to play important role during blight pathogenesis. In this newlinecontext, XopR, one of the core effectors in Indian Xoo strain (race 4) was studied in newlinedetails with reference to the sequence identity, subcellular localization, and its role in newlinegoverning growth, virulence and suppressing innate immune responses including newlinecallose deposition, ROS activation, defense related gene expression, plant cell death newline(PCD) and ion-leakages. Phylogenetically, XopR of Indian strain showed close relation newlineto one of the Asian strain PXO099 from Philippines. newline
