Abstract: The rapid growth of industrial and domestic load requires large amount of power and customer need to be supplied with good quality of power. There are many power quality problems such as voltage swell, voltage sag, harmonics, power loss and poor power factor are raised in the last few years. Using power filter the harmonics can be reduced and power factor can be improved. In the recent days many diodes and power electronics switches are used in various types of converters such as ac-dc rectifier, dc-ac inverter, dc-dc chopper and ac-ac cyclo converters. These types of converters are nonlinear loads in the power system. Nowadays, variety of domestic electronic appliances such as lights, fans, mixcy, grinder, washing machine, fridge, iron box, air conditioning machine, television, computers, uninterrupted power supply, charger are used by common people. Various types of motors such dc motors, induction motors, synchronous motors, stepper motors, switched reluctance motors, permanent magnet synchronous machine and their speed control circuit are also loads of the power system. Various types of power system components such as circuit transmission line resistance, inductance, capacitance, relays, circuit breaker, transformers, and generators are also acting as loads of the power system. The types of load produce large amount of harmonics in the power system.Reducing these harmonics is the need of the hour and research are going on continuously to improve the quality of power supply given to the customer. In earlier days, inductor and capacitor based LC filters were used to reduce the harmonics in the power system. These inductor and capacitor are having age problems such as resonance and detuning. Due to this the usage of LC filters in distribution system is limited newline
