Abstract: The prime objective of this stock-taking evaluative survey-cum-research study, entitled, Role of Mass-Media in Developing English Language Proficiency among Degree Students of Rural Area: A Study (With Special Reference to Hingoli District) is to explore the potential role of the English-rich mass-media in building English language proficiency among the degree students of rural area of Hingoli district. The research study deals with one of the major problems faced by the rural English language learners (ELL) in the non-native Marathi-speaking context. Taking Hingoli district, with its 14 traditional degree colleges, as a research sample for the present study, the researcher empirically reveals the fact that English language learning degree students from rural area of Hingoli district face a severe academic problem of real English language learning experience . newlineBy employing descriptive and analytical research methodology and specially designed questionnaires for collecting primary data from 750 degree students, 100 faculty and 50 responsible parents, the researcher establishes, through systematic and exhaustive statistical analysis with statistical tools like percentage and average, the thesis that the pro-English building mass-media, with its potential academic linguistic virtues, can serve as a dynamic and excellent audio-visual teaching learning aids , learner-friendly educational technology and a virtual English teacher for the degree students in the rural area like Hingoli district. It also establishes the fact that English-rich mass-media, as an effective audio-visual aids for English learning, expedite the process of English language learning and facilitates easy, effective and fast acquisition of English Language proficiency (LSRW-skills) among its smart and wise users in rural area like Hingoli district.
