Abstract: In last few decades, automation at various levels has been one of the prime factors for newlineindustrial growth throughout the world. Advancement in power semiconductor device newlinetechnology, availability of fast and eand#64259;cient power electronic devices (static switches) newlineat higher power rating, and advent of fast digital signal processors have made it possible newlineto implement control and automation for sustained industrial growth. Power newlineelectronic devices based converters have found numerous applications like, induction newlinefurnace, arc furnace, variable frequency drives for motor control, welding, and many newlinemore. Most of these power electronic converters are considered as non-linear loads newlinethat inject current harmonics in the power system, and hence deteriorate quality of newlinepower. At the same time, on the other hand, usage of power quality sensitive loads newlinelike computers, process controls, medical equipment, communication equipment, etc., newlinehas increased. newlinePower quality is a set of parameters related to properties of power supply. In a broader newlineperspective, power quality includes considerations regarding diand#64256;erent aspects of reliability newlineof electrical power supply such as distortion, phase unbalance, line interruptions, newlineamplitude variations, frequency changes, and#64258;icker, and transients, etc. But while narrowing newlinedown, the focus of power quality revolves around distortion in waveforms of newlinevoltage (at system level) and current (at equipment level). Due to the intensive use of newlinepower converters and other non-linear loads in industry and by consumers in general, newlinean increasing deterioration of the power systems voltage and current waveforms is newlineobserved. As the operation of customer equipment (e.g., power electronic converters) newlinecan cause power disturbances, the consumers of utility power should also play an newlinevii newlineactive role in the mitigation of power quality problems, especially at equipment level. newlineConventionally, passive and#64257;lters have been used to eliminate harmonics but due to their newlineinherent drawbacks, they have been replaced by active power and#64257;l
