A Study on Library Automation Facilities and Services of Arts and Science College Libraries Affiliated to Bharathidasan University Thiruchirapalli

Abstract

Library automation, stated in a single term, is the application of computers and utilization of computer based products and services in the performance of various library operations and functions in provision of various services and production of output products. Library automation implies a high degree of mechanization of various routine and repetitive tasks to be performed by human beings. With the advent of automation, the human intervention is reduced to a great extent. The appearance of computer has greatly increased the library automation. The aim of this study is to identify the respondents opinion through effective implementation of automation facilities in the library to develop knowledge, skill, and self-confidence. The problem identified in the study in the present context is entitled - A Study on Library Automation, Facilities and Services of Arts and Science College Libraries Affiliated to Bharathidasan University, Thiruchirapalli . The scope of the present study is limited to who are the users among Students and Faculty of Private Colleges Library affiliated to Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, India. Bharathidasan University Affiliated 17 Private Colleges have implemented Library Automation Facilities. Average of 50 questionnaires each was issued to all the private colleges. Totally 850 questionnaires were issued. Out of these, 782 questionnaires were collected and incomplete 68 questionnaires were rejected. newline
