The thesis entitled and#8213;Emergence of New Woman in Bapsi Sidhwa s Novelsand#8214; is sectioned into five chapters and it explores the novels of Sidhwa in order to examine the image of new woman that the writer projects. The patriarchal society controls women by rigid norms and codes. Men consider themselves the supreme of creations and treat women as inferiors. Feminists movements and scholars have taken efforts to alter this hierarchical social structure through various means. In this regard, the literary writers like Bapsi Sidhwa have attempted to inspire women to develop feminine consciousness to emerge as new woman. Woman s emancipation is in her hands. A woman, who becomes conscious of her place and position in the family and society, resists, struggles, and reaches her destination and that woman, is defined as a New Woman . newline
