dc.description.abstractThe applications of ultraviolet UV lasers in the fields like optical newlinedata storage telecommunications medical diagnostics and entertainment have newlineincreased in higher quantum in the recent years The nonlinear optical crystals newlineact as the best alternative to excimer lasers for the production of UV lasers newlinesince the usage of excimer lasers pose great complications in usage and newlineinvolve corrosive gases Several nonlinear optical NLO borate based newlinecrystals are being worked world wide by several research groups newlineThe present thesis consists of seven chapters A brief review on newlineborate based single crystals employed in NLO applications is summarized An newlineintroduction to Nonlinear optics along with the crystal growth techniques newlineinvolved in the present investigations is discussed The growth of yttrium newlinecalcium oxy borate YCOB crystals from lithium carbonate flux was carried newlineout and characterization studies were performed The synthesis of YCOB newlinepolycrystalline material was performed by the solid state reaction method and newlinewas confirmed through powder X ray diffraction XRD analysis The newlinegrowth of YCOB single crystals from lithium carbonate Li2CO3 flux was newlinecarried out after optimizing the charge to flux ratio as 1 0 4 YCOB flux newlinethrough the differential thermal analysis DTA newline newlineen_US
