Abstract: | Ever increasing global energy demand due to modernisation and newlineeconomic growth of the nation results in the over exploitation of fossil fuel newlinereserves. Transportation sector consumes a major portion of energy newlineconsumption and it utilises liquid fossil fuels. World s liquid fuel demand newlineduring 2016 is 95 Mb/d and will reach 110 Mb/d by the year 2035. To meet newlinethe huge demand of the liquid fuels a rapid transition from the fossil fuel to newlinebiofuel is much required one. Among the liquid fuel operated prime movers, Compression newlineIgnition (CI) engines are utilised for highway, off-highway propulsion, ship newlinepropulsion and power generation because of their robustness, reliability and newlinebetter efficient than the gasoline counterpart. In this aspect it is much essential newlineto develop technologies sustainable and greener environment by using newlinealternative fuels for CI engines. Biodiesel a renewable alternative fuel for CI engine produced from newlineanimal fats or vegetable oils through transesterification process. Many newlineresearches revealed that biodiesel is a promising alternative for diesel due to newlineits lower emission characteristics and similar combustion characteristics. One newlineof the major drawbacks of biodiesel is storage. When biodiesel stored for a newlinelong period it leads to several problems like corrosion of fuel system, newlineformation of sludge, clogging of fuel filter and clogging of fuel injector newlinenozzle. Storage stability is an important barrier that prevents the newlinecommercialization of biodiesel. In order to overcome the above problems newlinenatural antioxidant can be used along with biodiesel in CI engines. Therefore newlinein the present study to find out a viable natural antioxidant additive for newlinebiodiesel having better storage capability without affecting its performance newline newline |
