Abstract: newlineMembrane technology in its modern incarnation has several newlineadvantages such as high efficiency low maintenance ease of operation etc newlineover conventional separation techniques It has potential applications in newlinechemical pharmaceutical metal finishing desalination of brackish water and newlinefood industries There are five major developed membrane processes such as reverse newlineosmosis RO ultrafiltration UF nanofiltration NF microfiltration MF newlineand electrodialysis ED which cover a wide range of particle size In aqueous newlineseparations UF has been found to be an effective method for fractionation newlineand purification of macromolecules such as proteins UF is being successfully newlineemployed for the separation of toxic heavy metal ions by complexing them newlinewith macromolecular chelating ligand newline newline
