Abstract: Pyrazine PY methylpyrazine MP and dimethylpyrazine DMP newlinethe important drug intermediates were prepared using ethylenediamine ED newlinediaminopropane DAP ethylene glycol EG and ethanol amine EA as newlinereactants over copper based catalysts in the temperature range 340 440C newlineThe reaction mechanisms were dehydrocylization and deaminocyclization newlinefollowed by dehydrogenation Copper chromite catalysts with different CuCr newlineatom ratios varying from 054 were prepared Different supports such as newlinesilica gel neutral titania mildly acidic zeolite HY acidic and newlinemontmorillonite K10 clay highly acidic were impregnated with copper newlineoxide All the catalysts were subjected to different physiochemical newlinecharacterization studies such as XRD TGA TPR AAS FTIR nitrogen newlinesorption n butyl amine titration and ESCA newline newline
