Abstract: Crystals are solids consisting of an ordered array of atoms or newlinemolecules arranged in a regular repetitive manner in three dimensions They are newlinethe basic elements of modern electronics and technology In the recent years newlinegrowth of single crystals of technologically important organic and semiorganic newlinematerials has received a greater attention and has turned out to be the backbone newlineof crystal growth industry The technologies involved in the nonlinear and newlineoptical devices have prompted researchers to grow single crystals of newer newlinepotential materials Based on this scientific thought research was carried out to newlineexplore new materials and to grow single crystals of enhanced nonlinear optical newlineproperties newlineThe thesis consists of six chapters describing the crystal growth newlinemethods materials selection and modification growth of organic inorganic newlineand semiorganic single crystals characterization studies and their physical newlineimplications newlineThe first chapter gives an overview of different methods in crystal newlinegrowth An elaborate discussion was made on the low temperature solution newlinegrowth methods which include solvent evaporation method temperature newlinereduction method and gel diffusion method The basic theory of crystal newlinegrowth was studied and crystal growth parameters such as solubility newlinesaturation supersaturation nucleation phenomena and metastable newlinezone width were described The various characterization techniques of newlinecrystals were also discussed newlineThe second chapter describes the synthesis growth and newlinecharacterization of urea3nitrobenzoic acid organic single crystals in the newlinepresence of mnitroaniline and pxylene using solvent evaporation technique newlineby cocrystallization Single crystal Xray diffraction Single XRD was newlineperformed and the complete crystal structure was solved The crystal belongs newlineto monocline system with space group P2 The crystal grown was a novel newlinematerial and the crystal diffraction data was deposited in the Cambridge newlineCrystallographic Data Centre CCDC and allocated deposition number CCDC 764102 The crystals grown were characterized by Fourie
