dc.description.abstractThe focus of the work reported in this thesis is to control pH in a newlineFed batch nuetralisation process The control objective is to make the process newlineoutput to follow a predefined reference trajectory by manipulating base flow newlinerate Fed batch pH processes are highly nonlinear inherently time varying in newlinenature and there are no operating steady states Accurate repeatability of these newlineprocesses is difficult to obtain Due to their intrinsic characteristics control of newlinefed batch processes involve complex control functionality beyond the well newlineestablished norms for continuous processes and constitutes a challenging area newlineSince PID controllers are undoubtedly the simplest and widely used newlinecontrollers to regulate a majority of industrial processes a single loop PI newlinecontroller is used to control pH for the chosen process But the performance newlineof the single loop controller is not satisfactory when the gain of the process is newlinenonlinear and under disturbance conditions Cascade control can improve newlinecontrol system performance over single loop control whenever disturbances newlineaffect the process output or when the gain of the process varies due to changes newlinein operating point newline newlineen_US
