Abstract: | The phenomena of melting and solidification has many current newlineengineering applications such as ice formation solidification of castings and newlinescrap melting in the metal industry the cooling freezing and cold storage of newlinefoodstuffs in the food industry and certain other problems in chemical newlineengineering There are number of casting processes available depending upon newlinethe nature of the product It involves considerable metallurgical and newlinemechanical aspects Properly designed dies and a good control over the process newlineparameters are considered a must for quality castings To arrive at the optimum newlineprocess parameters the experimental methods are always better then newlinesimulations But from realistic considerations it is costly and time consuming newlineand many are impossible in some cases Hence computer simulation of the newlinewhole process is a convenient way to design a mould and analyze the effects of newlinevarious parameters In the casting process as the molten metal is poured into the mould newlinecavity the casting metal is initially in the liquid state with high fluidity newlineQuickly it becomes very viscous in the early stage of solidification and then it newlinesolidifies completely During this process a gap is formed between the cast and newlinethe mould newline newline |
