Management of non performing assets in public sector banks an appraisal

Abstract

Non-performing Asset (NPA) has emerged since over a decade as an alarming newlinethreat to the banking industry in our country sending distressing signals on the newlinesustainability and endurability of the affected banks. The positive results of the chain of newlinemeasures affected under banking reforms by the Government of India and RBI in terms of newlinethe two Narasimhan Committee Reports in this contemporary period have been newlineneutralized by the ill effects of this surging threat. Despite various correctional steps newlineadministered to solve and end this problem, concrete results are eluding. It is a sweeping newlineand all pervasive virus confronted universally on banking and financial institutions. The newlineseverity of the problem is however acutely suffered by Nationalized Banks, followed by newlinethe SBI group, and all the other Indian Financial Institutions.
