Abstract: In today s digital era of ICT, reliable data transmission of wireless networks with measured Bit Error Rate (BER) 10-6 and beyond is difficult to achieve. Wireless networks operating in the 2.4 GHz Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) band requires reliable data transmission to be deployed successfully along with low power and cost. The ISM band is an unlicensed band that allows operations without a license. Thus, such bands are often utilized for conventional technologies such as Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), Bluetooth, ZigBee, etc. These are the short range wireless technologies, mostly operated in a co-existing environment, with a disadvantage of interference that cannot be avoided. This interference degrades the performance of these technologies in terms of BER. To ensure low BER of 10-6 and beyond for quality enhancement of future communication systems, the devised methods such as reduced hop-set and probabilistic channel usage are deployed for better results. But these methods have major drawbacks which include reduction in the number of channels in the hop-set and in-efficient use of the channels. newlineIn the present study, the system models for Bluetooth, ZigBee and WLAN are designed, developed, simulated and analyzed to achieve low BER. Initially, the BER 10-5 for the Short-Range Technologies (SRTs) is measured with no interference, whereas interference was observed in BER 10-2. Results indicate that the BER increases due to interference. This is possibly because of the absence of channels for effective communication. Therefore, there is a need to identify channels for enhancing the BER. newline
