dc.description.abstract | A non linear process the conical tank level process whose parameters vary with respect to process variable is considered for study The time constant and gain of the selected process vary as a function of level Even though the process is first order and simple it has severe non linearity newlineTesting the performance of linear controllers on a time varying model is essential to evaluate its robustness and usefulness The laboratory conical tank level process for real time implementation is presented A PC is used to log data and perform the functions of various controllers At first the conventional PID control scheme is carried out For that purpose the experimental reaction curves are obtained at various operating points for different input magnitudes The ZN settings are then newlineevaluated using the reaction curves The servo and regulatory responses for various magnitudes of set point changes and load changes with the controller tuned at various operating regions are obtained The responses for process parameter variations are also obtained Finally the limitations of the conventional PID controller tuned using Ziegler Nichols settings for the chosen process and need felt for non linear intelligent control schemes are brought out newline | en_US |
