Abstract: | This research dissertation focused on a pharmaceutico-therapeutic study of a polyherbal newlinepowder formulation of 11 herbs of Ayurveda called Madhumehantak Churna used for type 2 newlinediabetes mellitus and attempts to bridge a gap in the large chasm among diabetes research. newlineThousands of theses and publications exist on diabetes medicines, treatments, counseling, newlineand interventions; yet there is no cure in sight, as medical systems do not integrate or actively newlineshare the knowledge of their own wisdom compatibly with other systems. Approximately 62.4 newlinemillion people in India lived with type 2 diabetes in 2011 according to the International newlineDiabetes Federation (IDF 2013), and this accelerated to 65.1 million by 2013. India is the leading newlineproducer of preventable blindness, primarily from diabetic retinopathy. While India holds the newlinedubious distinction as the capital of type 2 diabetes, it is also the home of Ayurveda, the oldest newlinecontinuously practiced medical system on the planet, and of a nation in which medical newlinepluralism flourishes. India provides recognition and legal protection for nine complete newlinemedical systems, each of which has treatments for the syndrome of diabetes, in active practice newlineby its diverse ancient peoples. The practice of integrative medicine as a collaboration between newlinepluralistic medical models maintaining their authenticity is more possible in India than in any newlineother country. newline |
