dc.description.abstract | Diabetic CKD is one of the leading diseases worldwide. It is also called DKD newlineor Diabetic Nephropathy (DN) and well allied with Diabetes. Diabetes is enormously newlineproliferated disease around the world and has several medical, social and economic newlineconsequences. Prevalence of Diabetes mellitus (DM) increases continuously in newlinethe developing as well as the developed countries. It affects millions of peoples newline(about 6-7%) of the world s population due to increasing prevalence of obesity and newlinephysical inactivity. In India, according to statistical predictions, DN occupy 6.6 newlinemillion out of 30 million patients with diabetes. Thus DKD/ DN is the most common newlinecause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and associated with high morbidity and newlinemortality rates among diabetic patients. These statistics raise the daunting prospect of newlinean quotepidemicquot of DN in India. Environmental factors such as hyperglycemia, arterial newlinehypertension and/or dyslipidemia are known to play a key role in the development of newlineDKD in genetically susceptible subjects. Most genetic studies of DKD used a newlinecandidate gene approach. Several studies from different parts of the world have newlineexamined (Ectoenzyme Nucleotide Pyrophosphate Phosphodiesterase) ENPP1 gene newlineand Selectin (Eand L) gene polymorphism as a candidate for DCKD. newlineIn an attempt to understand etiology and progression of DKD, we explored the newlineassociation of ENPP1gene and Selectin (EandL) gene polymorphism with study groups newlineas well as with other risk factors. newline | |
