Abstract

In India surface water pollution due to industrial wastewaters is newlineconsidered to be most important as these wastewaters are discharged in high newlinemagnitude and strength Anaerobic treatment of wastewater has a distinct newlineadvantage of recovery of inherent energy in the form of methane gas with newlinemuch less sludge production To increase the efficiency of anaerobic newlinetreatment many process modifications was done in the existing reactors to newlineimprove their performance and are called as high rate anaerobic reactors The newlinepresent study deals with the treatment of high strength industrial wastewaters newlineusing novel high rate anaerobic reactors and was carried out at the Centre for newlineEnvironmental Studies Anna University Chennai newline newline
