Abstract: Circulating monocytes migrate into tissues and terminally differentiate into tissue newlinespecific macrophages. Macrophages are heterogeneous mononuclear phagocytes that newlineengulf and digest cellular debris and pathogens. In tissues, macrophages respond to various environmental cues like microbial products, damaged cells and activated lymphocytes with the acquisition of distinct functional phenotypes. The combination newlineof monocytes, mobile macrophages and fixed tissue-macrophages is referred to as the newlinequotmonocyte-macrophage system (MMS)quot. MMS-mediated inflammation plays a critical newlinerole in a variety of degenerative diseases including atherosclerosis, obesity, diabetes and newlinemany forms of cancers. This study investigated the hypothesis that MMS-mediated inflammatory conditions contribute to the pathological effects of hyperglycaemia and hyperlipidemia. Recent evidence suggests that various phytochemicals from food substances or Ayurvedic rasayan(s) can reduce the elevated oxidative and lipid-mediated stress and in turn regulate the MMS-mediated inflammation. There are specific blood cell growth factors that promote the pathological effects of abnormal MMS activation. We planned to perform research work to understand the molecular regulation of MMS in response to hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia. newline
