Abstract: Sliding mode control SMC is a powerful technique for the design newlineof robust controllers especially for a class of nonlinear systems The newlineobjective of SMC is to drive the system states from any arbitrary initial newlinecondition to the sliding surface in finite time during the reaching mode and newlinethere from to steadystate in the sliding mode with required dynamics newlineDifferent reaching conditions have been presented in the existing literature newlinebut the finite time convergence of the system states to the sliding mode and or newlinethe bounded chattering during sliding mode and steadystate are not assured newlineby them A reaching condition called as reaching law for both continuous and newlinediscrete systems in which the above drawbacks are eliminated has been newline newline
