Abstract: Analysis of bone strength in radiographic images is an important component of estimation of bone quality in diseases such as osteoporosis Trabecular bone is a highly complex anisotropic material that exhibits varying magnitudes of strength in compression and tension It has been observed that in addition to bone mass the mechanical strength of bone is influenced by architectural variations It is necessary to analyze the architectural variations of trabecular femur bone to further supplement the conventional method of bone mineral density analysis The objective of this work is to estimate the assessment of bone loss that is arising due to gross abnormalities using low spatial resolution images In this work an attempt has been made towards development of an automated system for investigation of trabecular femur bone architecture using Bi dimensional Empirical Mode Decomposition methods fractal analysis and quaternion Hilbert transform methods The images are acquired using conventional radiographs because of easy availability and low cost The trabecular bone regions of normal and abnormal femur bone images recorded under standard condition are used for this study
