Inflammatory diseases afflict millions of people across the world leading to suffering economic loss and premature death Over the last few years despite intensive global research cures have still not been found Treatment of inflammatory diseases today is largely based on interrupting the newlinesynthesis or action of mediators that drive the host s response to injury Although such small molecule inhibitors have provided the main treatment for inflammatory arthropathies and asthma they are not without their shortcomings Also a range of therapies exist for the treatment of newlineinflammation driven diseases such as asthma rheumatoid arthritis psoriatic arthritis systemic lupus erythematosus Crohn s disease and multiple sclerosis However such therapeutics has undesirable side effects This thesis offers an alternate approach to the development of novel newlinetherapeutics with the use of medicinal plants that switch off inflammation and bring about its resolution It is thought that this strategy will bring in new possibilities for the future management of inflammation based diseases newlineen_US
