Abstract: | 1 newline1. Abstract newlineSince 1970s, how students learn a second language has attracted great emphasis. newlineConsiderable interest has been paid to understand the characteristic of language newlinelearners and learning strategies they use to achieve success in language learning. In newlinethe second language learning, reading serves as the primary source of information newlineabout all sorts of topic. Reading enjoys a very dignitary position and plays a very vital newlineanddynamic role in the development of human being and the world society. It is very newlineimportant for the academic success and achievements of the students. It is also newlineintegrated into our education system and now it becomes the synonyms of education newlineor academic success. According to Greyline and Joubert (1988) there is a direct newlinerelationship between successful studies and good reading. In the educational newlinedevelopment of a person reading serves as a foundation stone for the further learning. newlineAccording to Grove andHauptflisch (1982:1) success in reading ability is the gateway newlineto the acquisition and expansion of knowledge in all school subjects . Though the newlineconsiderable research and efforts have been done by researcher, teachers and students, newlineit is observed that still numbers of students are facing problems when they read in newlinesecond language. The purpose of this particular research is to enhance the reading newlineskills of first year engineering students using reading strategies. In order to carry out newlinethis research experimental method of research has been selected. The particular study newlineapplies one group pre-test, post-test method without the control group to study the newlineeffect of selective reading strategies on the 120 first year engineering students of newlineGTU. The reading strategies training are provided to the participants of study using newlinereading tasks developed by the researcher and then the effects of the strategic training newlineis measured. The comparison has been made between the score of pre-test and the newlinepost-test using statistical parameters like mean, standard deviation, correlation and the newlineT-test.The analysis of th |
