Abstract: Synthesis and characterization of metal complexes and their uses in organic transformations is an attractive area of research as it is usually performed under mild conditions Ligand a metal atom surrounded by a cluster of ions or molecules is used for the preparation of complex compounds and named as Schiff bases They are the condensation products of primary amines and aldehydes or ketones Schiff bases are considered to be privileged ligands due to the fact that they are straight forward to prepare and are moderate electron donors with easily tunable electronic and steric effects They are generally bi tri or tetra dentate ligands which are capable of forming very stable complexes with transition metals Especially the Schiff bases containing N O donor atoms in the back bone posses unusual configuration structural liability and are sensitive to molecular environment
