Picric acid the chemical compound trinitrophenol is a yellowish newlinecrystalline solid and used as dye intermediate explosive analytical reagent newlinegermicide fungicide staining agent tanning agent photochemical antiseptic newlineand as a process material for the oxidation or etching of iron steel and copper newlinesurfaces Picric acid is also used for the identification or quantitative analysis newlineof organic compounds and their structural features at the atomic level newlineIt is well known that picric acid forms salts or charge transfer newlinecomplexes with many organic compounds There is a considerable interest in newlinethe concepts of intermolecular non covalent bonds between molecular ions in newlinesuch complexes In order to understand the formation and interactions of newlinepicrate salts and complexes we have attempted to prepare a number of picrate newlinesalts and picric acid complexes in our laboratory We have made systematic newlineattempts to prepare in the ratio of picric acid and the newlinecounter molecule as the case necessitates newline newlineen_US
