dc.description.abstractThe macroscopic continuum physics specialized into mechanics electrodynamics and thermodynamics can hardly cope with the problems posed by rapidly developing technical sciences Hence the development of a unified theory in non equilibrium thermodynamics is highly warranted in order to describe the properties of the matter which continuously occupies the universe in macroscopic size their variation in space time and the physical and chemical forms of motion of the matter Such a unified theory was achieved by embedding the fundamentals of non equilibrium thermodynamics in a single variational principle proposed by Gyarmati The variational principle proposed by Gyarmati has since been applied for many practical problems and was established as the most general genuine and exact variational principle of macroscopic continuum physics newline newlineen_US
