The present investigation covers the studies conducted to conserve newlinecellulase enzyme which is used for biopolishing of cotton fabrics Two newlinedifferent conservation techniques namely immobilization and ultrafiltration newlinewere chosen Feasibility of these techniques was studied by analyzing their newlinerole on enzyme activity and fabric properties namely weight loss bursting newlinetensile strength and pilling grade of knitted and woven fabrics with different newlinestructures when the enzyme conserved is used in successive cycles newlineIn the study on immobilization of cellulase enzyme different carriers newlinenamely cation and anion exchange carriers and epoxy activated carriers were newlineconsidered Immobilization on cation exchange carrier was carried out using newlinetwo step process namely activation of the carrier and binding of the cellulase newlineon the activated carrier Thionyl chloride and methanol were used as newlineactivating agents For anion exchange carrier single step process involving newlinebinding alone was used as it does not require activation In the case of epoxy newlineactivated carrier as it is already preactivated cellulase was directly bound by newlineusing single step process namely binding newline newlineen_US
