A mobile ad hoc network is a collection of wireless mobile nodes that are capable of communicating with each other without the use of any network infrastructure or centralized administration Mostly ad hoc networks are studied based on the mobility models that capture the random movement of nodes in the networks However in practice mobile nodes do have some regular movement Academic campuses large industrial establishments with regular movement of the personnel etc are examples of scenarios where ad hoc networks with such regularity may be deployed It is this regularity in movement that is identified and exploited in this thesis Hence the goal is to identify the degree of regularity and stability Towards this goal a Trace Based Mobility Model that captures the history of the movement patterns of the nodes and identifies the regularity in these movements is proposed This regularity in movement is used to predict the stability of the nodes and this information forms the basis of the rest of the work In this thesis trace information has been used at the network layer to increase the efficiency of the routing and at the application layer to share the resourcesen_US
