The present research work commenced with profiling of hazardous newlineorganic compounds in municipal solid waste and quantification of the newlinepredominant compounds of hazardous nature The impact of co disposing newlinephenol a predominant hazardous organic compound with municipal solid newlinewaste was assessed A comparison of the performance of bioreactor landfill newlineand a conventional controlled dump with respect to organic degradation under newlinetropical condition was done The quantitative fate of three predominant newlinehazardous organic pollutants phenol diethyl phthalate and dibutyl newlinephthalate in bioreactor landfill as compared to controlled dump was studied newlineThe qualitative fate of other groups of hazardous organic compounds in MSW newlineundergoing degradation in landfill lysimeters was also discussed newlineFifty four different hazardous organic compounds falling into five newlinedifferent categories higher alkanes and their derivatives fatty acids and newlinetheir esters phenolics phthalates and other miscellaneous compounds were newlinedetected in the MSW Phenolics such as p cresol 445 1899 mg kg and newlinephthalates such as dibutyl phthalate upto 6932 mg kg were predominant in newlineMSW newline newlineen_US
