Classifying accident prone locations based on vehicle users perceptions using a mamdani fuzzy model

Abstract

Road accidents have been a major cause of concern all over the newlineworld and with rapid urbanization loss of life due to accidents has been on newlinethe rise An extensive review of the existing literature showed that road newlineaccident fatality rates ie deaths per 10000 vehicles licensed are high in newlinedeveloping countries very often 20 times greater than those in countries of newlineWestern Europe and North America Most studies on accident analysis had newlineclassified the locations as being accident prone only after repeated fatalities newlinehad occurred This study will help in proactively classifying the locations for newlinetheir accident proneness using vehicle user perceptions in developing newlinecountries where vehicle population growth is exploding yet urban planning newlineand safety mechanisms are not in place and in proportion to the population of newlinevehicles newline newline
