Psychological profiles of cricketers of Punjab

Abstract

The present study was designed to assess the psychological profiles of cricketers of Punjab. The sports performance especially in cricket depend more on the psychological state of the player than the physical state. The psychological variables such mental toughness, sports competitive anxiety and achievement motivation are considered as most prominent factors that decide player s success in cricket. Three psychological variables i.e. achievement motivation, mental toughness and sports competitive anxiety of cricketers of major and minor districts of Punjab were assessed to meet the purpose of the study. The present investigation has been formulated to explore the control of these factors on the performance of the cricketers. The fact established through study can be utilised in the selection of young cricketers. The present study will enable the physical educationist and coaches to ascertain the psychological state of the players. This study will also provide information on the psychological training of the players that will enhance their performance at the higher level.
