Abstract: | Background and purpose Civilization has increased the incidence of non communicable diseases like Diabetes. Treating the most annoying complication i.e., diabetic neuropathy is gaining importance as it badly influences the quality of life of the Diabetic person. In peripheral neuropathy the lower limb nerves are affected more, the most common nerve involved is sural nerve. Treatment interventions that target the nerve function are really helpful for the patients. So far studies have focused on effect of aerobic training on nerve conduction velocity. In this research work Sensory retraining program is given to diabetic neuropathy individuals and it s affect on sural nerve latency, amplitude and conduction velocity was measured. newlineMethodology 100 Diabetic neuropathy individuals were randomly divided into control and experimental groups of 50 each. Control group were not given any treatment except routine care. The experimental group subjects were treated with sensory retraining exercises for 16 wks, 5days/wk. Progression was assessed by using primary outcome measures like latency, amplitude, conduction velocity of sural nerve. Balance, quality of life and severity of neuropathy were evaluated by using secondary outcome measures like Berg balance scale, Norflok QOL-DN questionnaire and Toronto clinical scoring system. newlineResults Results were analysed by using various parametric and non parametric tests. Significance was assessed by taking P-value lt0.05. In control group latency is increased, amplitude is decreased and conduction velocity is decreased. Balance scores were decreased, quality of life scores were increased and even the neuropathy severity has been increased. All these findings indicate the progression of the disease. In experimental group after 16wks of sensory retraining program the latency is decreased, amplitude is decreased and conduction velocity is increased.
