Abstract: newline The Metabolic Syndrome (MS) is a cluster of abnormalities that is newlineaccompanied by a 2-fold increase in the risk of cardiovascular disease and has become a newlinemajor public health concern throughout the world. Given the enduring outbreak of overweight newlineand obesity, it is expected that the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome will continue to newlinegrow. Recent evidences suggest that dietary fiber that is rich in whole and unrefined grains is newlineprotective and play important role in preventing or delaying the onset of these lifestyle newlinediseases such as coronary heart disease, diabetes mellitus, cancer, and colon dysfunction. To newlineour knowledge, barley contains huge amount of dietar -glucan) and insoluble) newlineand is an affluent source of vitamins and mineral especially B vitamins and trace minerals. newlineClinical trials using barley have shown the potential for a 10 15% reduction in LDL-C when newline- . Most researches on soluble fibre -glucan) have focused newlineon oats, whereas barley another excellent source of this type of fibre but has received very newlinelittle attention compare to oats. Thus the present study was carried out to investigate whether newlinethe consumption of barley would reduce the prevalence of metabolic syndrome components. newline
