Abstract: State intervention in the economic or business activities was regarded as an inescapable part of the obligations of present- day governments to regards economic imbalances, to safeguard the interest and welfare of the community as a whole, to plan for overall rapid progress and prosperity and to undertake and execute schemes and projects vital to the needs of the nation. There is very little doubt that the future of a developing country and its ability to meet national aspirations of removal of poverty and faster improvement in living standards would largely depend upon the role assigned to public enterprises there.
