Abstract

Human lymphatic filariasis is a disease caused by the nematode newlineparasites Wuchereria bancrofti Brugia malayi and Brugia trimori At present newline120 million people in 80 countries are infected by this disease and several newlinemillions of people are under the risk of infection In India alone more than 45 newlinemillion people are infected with W bancrofti and B malayi Infected newlineindividuals show wide clinical spectrum such as elephantiasis of the newlineextremities lymphoedema lymphangitis hydrocoele chyluria and occult newlinefilarial tropical pulmonary eosinophilia The disease causes morbidity leading newlineto socioeconomic burden on the individuals newline newline
