Power Systems are in general nonlinear and the operating newlineconditions can vary over a wide range Small Signal Stability is one of the newlinemajor issue in most of the Power Systems The main reasons for the small newlinesignal instability are increasing size of generating units the loading of the newlinetransmission lines nearer to their limit and the use of high speed excitation newlinesystems The low frequency electro mechanical oscillations that occur in newlinepower systems due to dynamic load changes and action of controllers prevent newlineexploitation of available generating capacity This problem has been newlineaggravated by the employment of fast acting excitation system which is newlinefound to introduce negative damping in the system thus affecting its dynamic newlinestability Hence it is necessary to introduce additional damping into the newlinesystem which can be done by using Power System Stabilizers PSSs newline newlineen_US
