Abstract: Wireless adhoc networks have unique characteristic which includes self-configuring as per the situation in terms of dynamic free movements of wireless nodes. There is a frequent changes in the ad hoc network topology in which nodes move in an unpredictable way either in a collective manner or independent. When one node moves out of or into the range of other node, the wireless link for transmission becomes low or high. As the nodes have limited communication range and the datas are transmitted from the intermediate node, the route discovery becomes important. The reactive protocol is used to provide an end-to-end communication by considering issues like utilization of efficient energy, network lifetime and topological changes. The ad hoc network nodes can be laptops, PDA or palm tops, are limited in resources such as CPU capacity, storage capacity, battery power and bandwidth. Each node participating in the network acts both as a router and as a host to transfer the packets to other nodes. Therefore most of the energy is wasted in terms of performance to transmit the processed data. newlineThe characteristics of sensor nodes and applications make use of modified IEEE 802.11 MAC to self configure and in energy consumption. Therefore the communication in the wireless ad hoc networks is carried by the MAC sub layer with the help of radio interface. MAC based protocols for wireless ad hoc networks are broadly put up into two classes namely contention-free routing schemes and contention-based routing schemes. newlineRouting is a method to get a path between the source node and the destination node. In the wireless ad hoc network an individual node become inactive for a long period and become active suddenly when data transmission occurs. It is difficult to design routing protocol to satisfy the requirements such as energy efficiency, load balancing and scalability. Therefore energy efficient MAC scheme routing protocols are proposed and compared with the standard 802.11 power saving algorithm to improve the overall network throughp
