Development and Application of key Performance Indicators to Measure the Performance of Medical Equipment Management System in the Public

Abstract

This study was an attempt to develop and apply a measuring tool for the measurement of the performance of Medical Equipment Management System (MEMS) in the public hospitals especially in the Indian scenario. The literature review demonstrated various constraints and issues related to the status of MEMS of public Indian hospitals, mainly related to their maintenance and repair, utilization and functional status. The study was conducted in two phases. The first phase consisted of development of 28 number of validated key performance indicators (KPIs) with the help of experts in the field. In the second phase of the study, these KPIs in the form of measuring tools were applied in four public hospitals of city Chandigarh of north India. 252 pieces of medical equipment were selected in the ratio of 3:2:1:1 from GMCH-32, GMSH-16, CH-22 and CH-MM respectively. In the study, five primary objectives and two secondary objectives were analyzed and four hypotheses were tested using various statistical techniques. newline
