Abstract: In the present competitive environment, maximum thrust is being given on organizations to devise approaches for enhancing employee productivity. In this context, the subject of emotions, emotional intelligence and managing emotions in the workplace have gained a lot of attention in management. This approach for newlinemotivating employees for better job performance without involvement of direct newlinemonetary incentive is increasingly being explored by organizations in the country and newlineabroad. The professional organizations of today are also enthusiastic for investing in newlineemotional well being of their employees. newlineWhereas, reasonable development in this field has happened in some of the newlineorganization abroad, few study have been made in this regard in the Country and newlinefurther no such study conducted in Steel Industry is available . Steel Industry is a newlinelabour intensive industry and hence implication of this approach has a grater impact. newlineTo achieve higher productivity, newlineThe main reason for which the topic of emotional intelligence might have been newlinenot given its due importance in the past by organizational psychologists in context of newlineorganization is that organization was perceived as a formal, logical and rational newlinestructure without any involvement of human emotions at work place. Emotions, newlinewere seen as hindrance to effective work performance. newlineThe concept of Emotional Intelligence has evolved over a period in last two newlinedecades from a purely psychological concept to an effective approach for employee newlineproductivity and development. There is great scope to study the concept and its newlineimpact considering its immense contribution on emotional wellbeing of employees newlineindividually as well in organizations. newlinePurpose newlineIn this research work, an attempt has been made to make in depth study on newlineEmotional intelligence and to empirically ascertain its effectiveness on job newlineperformance of employees with reference to public sector steel industries. A newlineconceptual framework is framed to study the effectiveness of Emotional Intelligence newlineas well role of various Organizational Interventions. The role and effectiveness of newlineemotional intelligence and organizational interventions is analyzed. newlineResearch Methodology newlineThe study has adopted Descriptive Research Design and used Quantitative newlineanalysis. Stratified Random Sampling technique was used to identify the respondents. newlineFollowing survey method, a structured questionnaire was distributed among the newlineemployees of PSUs in Steel Industry. Out of 602 questionnaires distributed, 535 newlineresponses were found complete and valid in all respects. After confirming the newlinereliability and validity, T-test, Analysis of variance (ANOVA), multivariate analysis newline(MANOVA), Friedman chi-square test, Pearson.s correlation analysis, multiple newlineregression and Structural Equation Model (SEM) analysis were used to analyse the newlinedata collected newlineFindings newlineThe study revealed that effectiveness of Emotional Intelligence on job newlineperformance of employee is high. High level of Emotional Intelligence of employees newlineleads to enhance level of motivation of employees which results in higher employee newlineperformance. Various Organizational Interventions like Employee Orientation, newlineCoaching and Mentoring and Training have mediating effect between Emotional newlineIntelligence and employee job performance. The study also revealed that overall newlineEmotional Intelligence is not associated with Gender or Marital Status of the newlineemployee where as other demographic factors like Age, Qualification and work newlineExperience have significant difference with regards to Emotional Intelligence. newlineImplications of the study newlineThe study brings out high effectiveness of Emotional Intelligence on employee newlineproductivity as well as mediating roles of important organizational interventions. The newlineabove findings will positively facilitate organizations to develop and frame HR Policy newlinefor enhancing employee productivity. Aligning of Emotional Intelligence concept will newlinebe of competitive advantage to organization. This findings also give significant newlinecontribution in knowledge on enhancing employee productivity through investment in newlineorganizational interventions like Coaching and mentoring, Orientation as well as newlineTraining. The findings of the study that high emotional intelligence leads to higher newlinemotivation can lead to designing motivational scheme by the organizations aligning newlineaspects of Emotional Intelligence. newline
