All optical wavelength routed networks have emerged as a popular newlinearchitectural solution for the backbone of wide area networks Establishing a newlineconnection in a wavelength routed optical network involves selecting a newlinewavelength and a route for that connection with the constraint that the route newlineconnects the source of the connection to the destination of the connection and newlinethe same wavelength is available on all fiber links of the route A connection newlineestablished in the above manner is called a lightpath The requirement that the newlinesame wavelength must be used on all the links of the selected route is known newlineas wavelength continuity constraint An algorithm used for selecting routes newlineand wavelengths to establish lightpaths is known as Routing and Wavelength newlineAssignment RWA algorithm The RWA problem is termed as dynamic newlineRWA if the connection requests arrive or leave randomly newline newlineen_US
