Abstract: The present study is an attempt to portray and analyze the changing pattern of land use of Dhanbad district. Dhanbad is an important district of Jharkhand. It covers an area of 2040sqkm. It has a population of 26.6lakh with a density of 1316 people per sqkm. newlineThe density of the population is concerned this district can be divided into two zones. The industrial zone and agricultural zone, the industrial zone contains 20% of the total geographical area and accounts for more than 45% of the total population. The agriculture zone which is 80% of the area accounts for 55% of the population. According to the 2011 census, the majority of people are more than 23% of total workers are in engaged in the primary sector. The region has 20% of people engaged as main workers. newlineWhole consideration 45% of its total area can be said to be arable which 55% is not available for cultivation out of the total only 20% was actually sown with crop and others are under fallow land. A high percentage of fallow land is a result of the lack of irrigation. Dhanbad is mainly a rice-producing tract. About 95% of the cropped area is under paddy cultivation. newlineIn conclusion, it can be said that Dhanbad is an industrial region where the majority of people are engaged in a non-agricultural activity. Cropped land and forest land decreased. Due to lack of irrigational facilities land under area sown more than once is only 1%. The study area has to import food grains and export coal. Due to the impact of industrialization, urbanization people are diverting toward secondary and tertiary occupations. newline newline
