Abstract: | Diabetes mellitus (DM) also known as simply diabetes is a group of metabolic newlinediseases in which high blood sugar levels over a prolonged period can be seen. This newlinehigh blood sugar produces the symptoms of frequent urination, increased thirst, and newlineincreased hunger. Serious long term complications include heart disease, stroke, kidney newlinefailure, foot ulcers and damage to the eyes. Diabetes is due to either the pancreas not newlineproducing enough insulin, or the cells of the body not responding properly to the insulin newlineproduced. It is of two types type one DM results from the body s failure to produce newlineenough insulin and another is type two DM which begins with insulin resistance, a newlinecondition in which cells fail to respond to insulin properly. newlineA high intake of fruits and vegetables is well known to have positive effects on newlinehuman health and has been correlated to a decreased risk of most of the chronic newlinediseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and several forms of cancer. Also newlinenowadays importance of natural products is being revitalized to alleviate various health newlinediscrepancies. Phytochemical in diet could provide protection against several threats newlinelike free radical formation, degenerative disorders and lifestyle related diseases but still newlinerole of array of active ingredients should be unveiled. newlineIn today s life, stress, inactive life style, obesity, lack of physical work and newlineenvironmental pollution are the crucial factors in progression of variety of lifestyle newlinediseases ranging from diabetes, hyperlipidemia, further diabetic complications as newlinediabetic nephropathy, neuropathy, cardiac complications, etc. which directly alter the newlinequality of life of individual. newlineDespite of several advances in the health care system, numerous new diseases newlinehave emerged and allopathic medications by itself could not tackle the plethora of newlineproblem posed by emergence of new diseases. However, the problem of adverse effects newlinehas also not been circumvented completely. Hence, search should continue to develop newlinenewer, more effective and safer natural agen |
