Abstract

Dye lasers proved to be very useful systems because of their newlineintrinsic high gain and wide range of tunability The main feature of dye newlinelasers are they have broad band fluorescence typically of the order of 40 nm newlineand under suitable conditions the gain can be made to exist almost over the newlineentire range Even though the dye lasers have many advantages the common newlineproblems associated with them are evaporation of the solvent fluctuations in newlinethe flow of the dye when circulated formation of stagnant films solvent or newlinedye poisoning Organic dyes show a better solubility and therefore newlinecompatibility with the polymeric materials The materials showing newlinenonlinearities can be used as optical storage elements optical limiters and in newlineall optical switching devices newline newline
