dc.description.abstractHuman face recognition is one of the most successful applications newlineof image analysis and understanding that has recently received significant newlineattention especially during the past few years At least two reasons account newlinefor this trend the first is the wide range of commercial and law enforcement newlineapplications and the second is the availability of feasible technologies after newlinecontinuous research Even though current machine recognition systems have newlinereached a certain level of maturity their success is limited by the conditions newlineimposed by many real applications For example recognition of face images newlineacquired in an outdoor environment with changes in illumination andor pose newlineand facial expressions remains a largely unsolved problem In this work a newlinenew approach on face recognition using semantic object recognition newlinetechniques based on gradient edge detection and appearancebased statistical newlinemethods have been introduced to overcome these obstacles newline newlineen_US
