Abstract: We report the growth and characterization cyclohexylammonium carboxylate single crystals for nonlinear optical and optical limiting applications. The present thesis consists of seven chapter and the first chapter concerned with the introduction to the crystal growth, nucleation theory, various crystal growth techniques, literature survey on cyclohexylamine, carboxylic acids, organic nonlinear optical crystals and also scope of the thesis are reported. newlineThe second chapter deals with the growth process, elemental analysis, dielectric studies, linear and nonlinear optical response of cyclohexylaminum hydrogen phthalate hemihydrate (CYHPH) crystal. The equimolar ratio of (1:1) cyclohexylamine and phthalic acid were used to grow CYHPH and it was characterized by XRD analysis, FT-IR and TGA-DSC analysis. newlineThe third chapter discusses on the growth and characterization of bis(cyclohexylammonium) succinate succinic acid (BCSSA). A good quality BCSSA crystals (2:1 molar ratio) are harvested and characterized by XRD analysis, FT-IR, UV-Vis-NIR and TGA-DSC studies. The dielectric studies were measured as a function of frequency at different temperatures. Nonlinear optical response were tested using Z-scan method. newlineFourth chapter discusses the growth and characterization of cyclohexylammonium acetate (CYHAC). The crystal structure and lattice parameters were determined using single crystal XRD analysis. The functional group present in the compound were confirmed by FT-IR analysis. The cut off wavelength and optical band gap were calculated from UV-Vis-NIR spectrum. The electrical properties (dielectric constant, loss AC conductivity and activation energy) were calculated using LCR impedance analyzer. The nonlinear optical properties were determined using Z-scan technique. newlineThe fifth chapter deals with the growth and various physical properties such as structural, elemental optical, spectral, thermal, electrical and third order nonlinear optical properties of cyclohexylammonium hydrogen adipate (CYHAD) crystal. newlineChapter sixth deals with the synthesis, growth and characterization of cyclohexylammonium 4-nitrobenzoate crystal. The crystal structure was determined by single crystal XRD analysis. The good crystallinity of CYH4NBA confirmed by newlineii newlinepowder XRD spectrum. The elemental analysis shows the percentage composition of carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen presented in CYH4NBA. The absorption spectrum was recorded in the range of 200 to 800 nm. The dielectric studies were reported for CYH4NBA. The nonlinear optical properties (nonlinear refractive index, nonlinear absorption coefficient, third order nonlinear optical susceptibility and optical limiting response) were also tested. newlineIn seventh chapter, the summary of the reported works and also suggestion for the future works are presented. newline
