Abstract: | Background: As per the review of treatment management of Inflammatory newlineBowel Disease (IBD), especially Ulcerative Colitis and Chron s Diseases, newlinerequires remission therapy. If drugs, used in the treatment are delivered newlinedirectly to the colon, it might resulted in reduce dose and side effects. Various newlineapproaches were studied to deliver drug directly to colon for effective newlinetreatment of IBD. newlineAim: The aim of present research work is to develop colon targeted newlinemultiparticulate dosage form for effective treatment of Inflammatory Bowel newlineDisease. newlineMaterial and Methods: In the present research work, colon targeted newlinemultiparticulate dosage form (calcium pectinate beads) using ionotropic newlinegelation methods. Both, pH dependent and bacteria dependent approaches newlinewere used. Pectin was used as bacteria dependent polysaccharide and newlineEudragit S100 was used as pH dependent polymer. Novel assembly for bead newlinegeneration was developed to avoid traditional lab scale method, which is newlinetedious and lengthy. Prepared drug loaded beads were evaluated for effective newlinetreatment of IBD. newlineResult and Discussion: Formulation optimization was successfully optimized newlinefor generation of uniform spherical shape and smooth surfaced beads with newlineeffective drug release directly to the colon. Process parameters for novel newlineassembly as well as for Eudragit S100 coating were derived newlineConclusions: newlineEnd of the present study, prepared formulation could be used for effective newlinetreatment of inflammatory bowel disease. It was found that combination of pH newlinedependent and bacteria dependent approaches could give desired results. |
