Titanium and its alloys have long been used as implant materials in newlinedental and orthopeadic applications In practice a very oxide film on the newlinetitanium surface which is formed in an aqueous environment plays a decisive newlinerole in determining the biocompatibility and corrosion behaviour of the newlinetitanium implants As the corrosion resistance is known to increase with the newlinethickness of the oxide layer several attempts have been made to form a thick newlineTiO2 layer on the titanium substrate by different methods such as newlineanodization thermal oxidation dip coating electrophoretic deposition newlinesputtering and the solgel process etc However almost all these coating newlinetechniques are carried out at an elevated temperature where postsintering is newlinerequired which may cause decomposition of the coated material and newlinedeterioration of the metallic substrate newline newlineen_US
