Multi objective differential evolution algorithm for congestion management in restructured power systems

Abstract

The restructuring in electric power sector provides open access in the transmission systems which lead to larger use of transmission networks and a competitive electricity market. In competitive electricity markets, due to Transmission Open Access (TOA), the transmission networks are heavily loaded up to their loadability limits. This may lead to the problem of congestion in transmission networks. Congestion Management (CM) is one of the important aspects in the secure operation of power system. Rescheduling generators, load curtailment, regulating or tap setting transformers, FACTS devices, etc. can relieve congestion. The Independent System Operator (ISO) generally prefers the approach of rescheduling generators as it does not alter the system topology. In certain cases, both the generators and loads may alter their schedules from the market clearing newlineprocedure when the rescheduling of generator alone is not sufficient to relieve the congestion. newline newline
