Participatory approach to solid waste management a study of select urban local bodies of Punjab state

Abstract

The objective of this research endeavour was to study the solid waste management system in Punjab State. Mixed method approach was followed in the study. The primary data was collected through interviews, focus group discussions, an observation checklist and visual tools. The study illustrates that implementation gaps and lack of systematic participation of stakeholders are the major reasons identified for inefficient service delivery of solid waste in the studied cities of Punjab State. The large number of suggestions listed in the study, flowing from the research undertaken, would work towards filling these gaps systematically and holistically.
